How To Get Help With Dental Care
The Virginia Dental Association Foundation provides dental care and education for Virginians without any other means of accessing dental services. We offer the following, all free of charge:
Exams and routine dental procedures for anyone without access to dental care on a first come, first served basis at our Mission of Mercy mobile projects. See upcoming dates and locations, and then check the Details for Patient Information.
- Six to eight projects per year are held in locations across Virginia.
- You must arrive early and may be required to stand in line for an extended period of time to receive care.
- Services may include cleanings, fillings, extractions, and in a very limited number of cases, dentures. All services are not available at every project.
Comprehensive, non-emergency dental care through our Donated Dental Services program for adults who are low-income AND are either 62 years or older or who have a permanent disability. Learn more or apply.
- All services are donated by dental volunteers as a gift to the patient. They are not paid for their services.
- You must need extensive dental care – more than a cleaning and a few fillings.
- You must complete an application and provide supporting documents, including proof of income.
- There is a waiting list for services. Length of wait time varies by location and dental needs.
Oral health education and routine dental procedures for children through our Give Kids a Smile!
events. Learn more.
- Most events are held in February during National Children's Dental Health Month. Events are planned in conjunction with schools, dental offices, and other community organizations.
- Services may include oral health education, cleanings, fluoride varnishes, and limited fillings and extractions. All services are not available at every project.
- Contact us (hyperlink to Contact Us form) to see if a Give Kids a Smile! event is planned in your area.
How To Donate To VDAF
We are passionate about oral health and dental care because they profoundly affect the well-being of individuals and communities. However, for many people, financial realities and other challenges leave them with no hope of securing care.
You can help. Your gift to the Virginia Dental Association Foundation makes a tangible difference in the health and quality of life of underserved and uninsured Virginians by providing free care through our dental outreach programs.
Ways to Give
Gifts of Cash
Making a gift by check or cash is the simplest and most common way to give. Use our online donor form or mail checks to the VDAF, 3460 Mayland Court, Suite 110, Richmond, VA 23233.
You may want to take advantage of the following when making a cash gift:
- Monthly or Quarterly Giving. Set up a recurring gift using our simple online donor form.
- Tributes. Honor a friend, family member or special occasion or memorialize a special person by making a gift in their honor or memory. The VDAF will send a card acknowledging your gift, if desired.
Gifts of Stock
We gladly accept gifts of securities, which allow you, the donor, to deduct the fair market value of the stock when it is transferred. View our Stock Transfer Instructions or contact Tara Quinn, VDAF Executive Director, at 804-523-2181.
Stock transfers may be delayed during the holiday season. For tax purposes, please originate transactions at least two weeks before the end of the year.
Support VDAF When You Shop
You can donate to support VDAF when you visit PayPal.com, with no fees. (Some of PayPal Giving Fund’s ecommerce partners may charge fees to donors, which they will disclose on their websites). You can also give back when shopping at Kroger by enrolling in their Community Rewards program. Simply visit http://www.kroger.com. Once logged into your Kroger account you can search for Virginia Dental Association Foundation either by name or LA468 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card.
Donor Advised Fund Donations
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a centralized charitable account. It allows charitably-inclined individuals, families and businesses to make tax-deductible charitable donations of cash, publicly-traded stock and in some case, certain illiquid assets, to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program. Read more about how to make a donation from your DAF here.
Use the widget embedded in our website or visit DAF Direct to make your donation to the VDAF now.
Legacy Gifts
Also known as planned giving, legacy gifts enable you, the donor, to pursue your personal, financial and estate planning goals while also benefiting the VDAF's dental outreach programs. There are many options for legacy gifts, including bequests, life insurance, retirement plans, charitable annuities and charitable trusts. Please contact your financial or estate planning professional to find the option that is right for you, then contact Tara Quinn, VDAF Executive Director, at 804-523-2181 or
Employer Matching Gifts
If you work for a company that matches your charitable donations, please request that your gift to the VDAF be matched by your employer. It is an easy way to multiply your generosity and provide even more help to someone in need of dental care.
Donated Items and Services
The VDAF welcomes donations of new dental supplies and dental equipment in excellent condition on an as-needed basis. If you would like to donate equipment or supplies, please complete our online Donate Resources form or call us at 804-523-2180.
Virginia State Income Tax Credit
Your contribution to the VDAF may be eligible for Virginia's Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). NAP offers Virginia state income tax credits to individuals and eligible donors of qualified, participating organizations. The VDAF participates in the NAP program.
