Recognizing the critical connection that access to quality dental care has to quality of life, Dr. Christina Byerson approaches her mission daily with a smile. Dr. Christina Byerson was born in Japan and after living in Oklahoma and Germany settled in Hampton, Virginia. While on a Mission of Mercy Project in Wise County, Virginia, she received confirmation that dentistry was her calling. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University and then matriculated on to VCU School of Dentistry where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS).

Dr. Byerson has a strong passion for community health and upon graduating from dental school, she accepted a dentist position at Capital Area Health Network, a Federally Qualified Health Center. Not long after her arrival, she was promoted to Chief Dental Officer (CDO), the youngest to ever hold that position. Capital Area Health Network’s Dental Practice has thrived under Dr. Byerson’s leadership. She has chartered a course to ensure more residents of Metropolitan Richmond have access to quality, affordable dental care and the results have been consistent including increasing the number of patients the Network provides care for and expanding the number of dental facilities.

Dr. Byerson is kind, friendly, approachable, and loves interacting with all people. She prefers approaching dentistry using a cheerful attitude, evidence-based research, and genuine concern for the best interest of her patients. She is an active member of The Academy of General Dentistry and attends conferences and other events to stay up to date on topics and trends in dentistry.

Dr. Byerson is supported by family, which includes her husband, Braxton - a life coach, professional speaker, and author - and four very active young boys. When she isn't caring for patients, her top priority is spending quality time with her family.
