Dr. Lyubov Slashcheva grew up in the Shenandoah Valley since emigrating with her family from Kazakhstan at age five.

After completing undergraduate training at Eastern Mennonite University and dental training at VCU School of Dentistry, she pursued residency training in Dental Public Health at the University of Iowa, where she also completed a Fellowship in Geriatric & Special Needs Dentistry, as well as graduate certificates in Global Health, Biostatistics, and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities.

As a National Health Service Corps Dental Scholar, she began her clinical career with an innovative Minnesota-based non-profit, Apple Tree Dental, an organization known for its mobile dental program in long-term care, group home, and school/Head Start settings, as well as its research and advocacy efforts on the state and national level. Dr. Slashcheva returned to the Shenandoah Valley in August 2021 with a clinical appointment at the Healthy Community Health Centers in Harrisonburg, VA. She also continues to serve as Research Collaborator to the Mayo Clinic and Research Team Lead for Apple Tree Dental. One of her current professional roles includes being Chairperson of the American Public Health Association Oral Health Section.

Dr. Slashcheva is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health, a Fellow of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry, and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. As an member emeritus of the VDA Long-Term Care Access to Care Task Force and alumnus of the ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership, Dr. Slashcheva continues to lend her expertise to organized dentistry as a member of the ADA National Elder Care Advisory Committee and as Vice President of the Shenandoah Valley Dental Association. She also serves as a member of the Virginia Health Catalyst Clinical Advisory Board.

While in Iowa, Dr. Slashcheva married her partner, Scott, with whom she adopted three children in Minnesota. The family of five enjoys urban homesteading and cycling as they put down roots in Harrisonburg, VA.
