Dr. Howell is the owner of RL Howell DDS & Associates, PC, a group dental practice providing the greater Suffolk community with comprehensive general dentistry. Dr. Howell is a past president of the Virginia Dental Association. Currently, he represents the VDA as a delegate to the American Dental Association, serves on the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program Committee, and is a member of the ADA Council on Communications. Recently, Dr. Howell served on the strategic planning committee for the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He is an active board member of the Virginia Healthcare Foundation; Past President of the Virginia Dental Association Foundation and currently a board member of the Virginia Dental Association Foundation; serves on the Colonial Virginia Council Executive Board for the Boy Scouts of America; is a member of the Board of Directors of United Church Homes and Services; Chairman of the Lake Prince Woods Advisory Committee; and a member and past president of the Suffolk Rotary Club.

Dr. Howell received his BS in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary and his DDS from the Medical College of Virginia. In June 2012, he was awarded the Masters from the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Howell has been honored as the Western Tidewater Free Clinic’s Volunteer of the Year, Hampton Roads Volunteer of the Year (family category) from Volunteer Hampton Roads, Richard Simmons Award by the Tidewater Dental Association, and the Leadership Award by the Virginia Dental Association.
